Questions I’ve Been Asked: Part 1

Q:  What are some of the challenges of workplace diversity?

A: We all have narratives running in our heads about how the world and the people in it work, act, behave and believe.  These scripts are formed based on what we are taught and experience when young, and throughout life.  Workplace diversity is about seeking, appreciating and valuing differences in others — which includes perspectives that can feel like they undermine ones own belief systems.  It’s more difficult than most of us imagine to be truly inclusive of others, but it can be done by intentionally suspending judgment of differing views and substituting cultural curiosity about difference.
